Nothing really happens in this city: Withnessing the drown (2024)

This study involves the filming of a helium-filled balloon outside my room window. A video camera was mounted on a tripod positioned behind the window. Filming sessions were conducted each day for 5 seconds, and those 5 seconds were randomly selected from each day. Filming was planned to continue until the balloon is considered dead.

Although this study was primarily aimed at collecting data for future performance planning—specifically, data on determining the duration of a helium balloon lasting outdoors and the change in its size over time—it soon turned out to be a failure. I repeatedly stumbled over the tripod and moved the camera, making it impossible to compare the size shift within the footage. Consequently, marking the legs became necessary (1) .

The demise of the balloon coincided with the day of garbage pickup. This event led to the bin and the tied balloon being moved a few meters away from their original positions, marking the end of this study. It was the fifth day.

Masking the leg's position with two tapes crossing each other couldn't accurately mark the exact point of the leg. Two crossing planes can be marking an infinite number of points.

The dead balloon hung there for two more days without any specific rationale. Due to the fierce wind and fluctuating temperatures, it developed a unique appearance which eventually extended the period for observation.
