Nothing really happens in this city: Migrating a block ahead (2024)
Tenth performance, moving a paving block one block ahead.
The props for this performance—a jar of gum and a metal scraper—were bought earlier on the day of the performance. A paving block was randomly selected from those among which discarded chewing gums are adhered.
The performance plan involved scraping the adhered gums off and sticking their replicas on the block ahead - moving a block ahead. However, presumably, due to the cold weather and the rough texture of the block, the metal scraper couldn't entirely scrape them off, leaving a messier residue on the block.
In order to replicate the three gums of the chosen block, two gums were firstly chewed, one on each side of the cheek. When they had softened enough, they were taken out of the mouth and put on the block ahead. The third gum was chewed after the first two.
Among the four blocks surrounding the chosen block, the direction of 'ahead' was selected to face away from the nearest tube station. As a result of this altered performance, two paving blocks with identical adhesions were created.
