Nothing really happens in this city: Undoing (2014)
This performance was a variation of Act 10: 'Migrating a Block Ahead,' where I replicated the gum that was spat out on a pedestrian block onto the block ahead.
In this iteration, PVA glue was used to replicate the block once again, but this time, in an undoing manner. By using the term 'undoing,' it is meant that the entire block was covered with glue, and then the three gums I had initially placed were peeled off, visualising the negative of the original block.
A small amount of white watercolor ink was mixed with the PVA glue to imitate the color of the gums. Two plastic scrapers, differing in sizes, were used to mix the PVA glue with ink and evenly spread the mixture on the block.
The entire performance was staged in the middle of the night when no pedestrians were on the street to avoid any suspicion.
I heard two footsteps approaching from a distance when I was finalising spreading glues evenly over the block, and therefore, I had to conclude the performance earlier. No additional action nor documentation was possible. Below is the still image from the last second of the documented footage.
After sunrise, I rushed back to the scene to take more photos of the block, but even though it was before tube operation hours, the glue was found messed up.
This image marked the end of this performance.
